CONSERVATION BASED

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES

When we began to learn that development could be more than a strategic tool for conservation, but a source of re-engagement of the human community with the more-than-human world, and therefore and engine for meaningful inhabitation, we took steps to become developers ourselves.  Along the way we found that we were not alone in being conservationists first, and developers as a logical and appropriate second.

Our practice now includes, for both partners and private clients:

Land Scouting Services

For locations appropriate to a vision of sustainable development, conservation and creation of storied places, for both conservation developers and individual legacy investors.

Due Diligence Services
Research, on the ground and in the studio, analysis and visualization of place-appropriate strategies and forms to test the ecological, cultural and economic suitability of a proposed site or region to the client’s or partner’s vision.

Conservation-based Development Design Services
To visualize and define the spirit and specifics of a project, including predevelopment, land planning, habitat conservation and enhancement, and architectural services from inception to completion of a storied place.

Services to Land Trusts
To negotiate and develop conservation outcomes on properties where the simple purchase or donation of a conservation easement is economically or temperamentally impractical.

Services to Communities

To propose sustainable and conservation-based alternatives to conventional development proposals in collaboration with the owners of lands critical to the ecological and spiritual health of a community.
