Rural site selection and due diligence services

We help families, investors or developers with a conservation ethic who seek to locate and create rural communities, retreats, ranches or residences, by helping them to define their needs and goals and locating rural properties that suit their intentions.  these services may be followed by land planning and/or architectural services to complete the project, literally building upon the values and analysis that went into the selection and definition of the place.  

We have many years of experience in evaluating land for conservation purposes and investment value.  Our conservation barometer is field tested, accurate and unwavering, as is our commitment to design excellence.  We find conservation opportunities where others may not see the possibility or need, and can also identify claims of sustainability that are unfounded. This latter skill and service is increasingly important, given the emerging conservation values of buyers of rural land.  With a well-meaning market demanding sustainable real estate choices, uneducated or unscrupulous developers and brokers are increasingly "green-washing" their projects- making claims of conservation, preservation, and restoration on projects that are in truth creating ecological and cultural fragmentation.  

Our investor, recreational user, and developer clients want to know that they are in fact making ecologically, culturally and financially responsible choices when they buy and build.  Having provided these services to conservation groups, land trusts, and investment funds for several years, we are uniquely qualified to evaluate alternative sites, inhabitation approaches, and broker/developer claims, saving the client time and money and providing confidence that their conservation values have truly been supported by their purchase.
