MALIBU LAGOON RESTORATION PROJECT / MALIBU / CALIFORNIA / 2013

The newly restored lagoon allows for greater access to the famed Surfrider Beach, better birding opportunities and a greatly improved habitat for the wildlife that live in this unique environment which is salt water for half the year and fresh water for the other half. Along the pathways teaching moments and gathering spaces such as the at the Kelp Canopy, Watershed Fountain, Water Stair, and Bird Blind create teaching moments and places for reflection that will help raise awareness for this unique habitat. Partners include California State Parks, California State Coastal Conservancy, Santa Monica Baykeeper and Santa Monica Bay Restoration Foundation / $8 million and 25 acre project.
